Study on rock-breaking efficiency evaluation of TBM disc cutters based on Rostami prediction equations

As the main cutting tool of Tunnel Boring Machine (TBM) for rock-breaking, rock-breaking efficiency TBM disc cutters directly affects TBM’s boring speed, which in turn overall progress tunnelling project. Therefore, a simple and accurate evaluation method is an essential prerequisite to improve performance TBM. In this paper, classical force prediction equations were summarized applicability each equation constant cross-section was analyzed. The calculation specific energy per ring derived based on Rostami theory cutter rock-breaking. verified through practical engineering case. results show that maximum relative error effective thrust torque head 9.8%. 8.0%, indicates can accurately reflect cutters. not only simplify cutters, but also serve as valuable reference projects.
